Accelerated Clock

Post by jjgivaway on Wed Dec 30, 2009 11:37 am

I just played Middle, and while it was a good game, and high scoring, it quickly became an all-pass affair. We each had a drive that took up almost an entire quarter. I think 8 minute quarters with no accelerated clock would be just fine, but this is just my opinion.

Clock Time

Post by Bradysenior on Wed Dec 30, 2009 12:28 pm

Okay fellas the statement was made and poseted now I like to see how everyone feels about the time?

I personally feel that the time is better than most leagues i'm in which some go 12min w/15sec run off but that is just my opinion also..

I just played a game and 10:00 minute quarters worked out fine for me. i will have no problem going with what is decided. Better defense needs to be played to discourage the all pass affair/attack. just my opinion.

I think that 10 min with accelerated clock is good with me. I like to have slow and steady drives and dont get a lot of big plays especially since my boy CJ goes from 97 back down to 88....along with a 71 overall vince

I like the XLSL setup. You can have long drives and have time to make a comeback. If you can run the ball you can eat 4-5 minutes a drive...

I'm pretty sure middle had a 6 or 7 minute drive and I had a 6 minute drive as well. It was basically like 3 possessions per half.

yeah we had a few long drives. Its basically an all passing game if you get behind or dont have an elite RB, because the run game us pretty tough. JJ had a drive that he went 54 yards in 8 mins and soaked up a whole quarter. I do like the xlsls clock style also, i havent really tried to play without the accelerated clock. Like i said though, you have a run or 2 that get you no yards, and a whole minute or 2 is run off the clock because the play clock is so long, then you speed it up and it seems like you dont have the ball much so it basically takes the run gm away... because i wont be breaking many long runs with old man Fred Taylor LOL

Like you need a passing game with Tom & Randy...lol. j/k.

I think the XLSL has the best setup, it has enough time to use your whole playbook, run, pass, comeback...just my 2 cents.

The thoughts of the league is noted and we will as the season gets close to the end will have a vote to see whom will want to have it changed from 10min quarters to 12min quarters or we even could have the option to turn off the 15sec run off clock if we stay at the 10 minutes.

In the poll, you left out turning off the 15 second run off.
I feel it would be best to turn it off and keep it at 10 min. qtrs.
As it is now and even with 12 min. qtrs. there is not enough time to audible plays, routes, ect. and no time at all to make defensive audibles to adjust to the offenive audibles.

I created a new poll for the Regular Season and the playoffs with 3 options for the time.

I personally don't think the time should change just because of the time of the season. We should stick to one time.

The regular season has already started, so yeah we would not change that this season...if it even changes.

The Playoffs can still be changed once we have the votes and the rules committee takes a look at it.

I just wanted us to find a good time for regular season and playoffs for future years. If the playoffs change this season, great...if they dont... cool.
